unlovable people.
God loves people. He loves people more than anything else. He died for people. He didn’t die for things or even for the rest of creation. He died for people. It pales to even call people a priority. People are so much more than a priority. People are the only thing WORTH dying for.
And what’s even more amazing is that people are what brought sin, ruin, and death into a perfect creation. The plants didn’t do that. The animals didn’t do that. The water, light, sky, and starts didn’t do that. People did. People brought death onto everything, including themselves. And YET, God still sent His only Son, Jesus, to take all sin on Himself so people could have eternal life instead of death.
To recap: God created all things perfectly without sin. People sinned and brought death upon themselves and the rest of creation. Creation did nothing to deserve death. God sent His only Son to take the death that we brought on ourselves. And now that he took death from us, He offers us eternal life instead. THAT love is the love He has for all people.
So, this got me thinking… do I love people too? I’m not God and I can’t overcome death for other people. But if that is how MUCH God truly loves people… am I being a reflection of THAT love? To ALL people?
There isn’t one person he doesn’t love.
The one who may seem to us unlovable.
The one who can’t find love.
The one who doesn’t want love.
The one who discards love.
The one who despises love.
The one who takes love for granted.
There may be people you’ve encountered who you may not have even thought twice about God’s sacrificial love for THEM:
The driver who doesn’t say much their passenger understand …and the person who cuts them off in traffic.
The autistic teenager whose dad is trying desperately sit them down in a crowded room… and the person who won’t make eye contact to avoid giving up the empty seat next to them.
The overlooked person sitting on the side of the street with nothing but the clothes on their back …and the person who walks by thinking they should get up and get a job.
The server at a restaurant who is making ends meet for their family …and the couple that walks out without leaving a tip.
The toddler throwing a tantrum and the mom frantic for a solution …and the person rolling their eyes and whispering under their breath how out of control the child is.
The businessperson on the phone yelling at someone on the other end of the call …and the person on the other end of the call.
Let’s make it a little more personal:
The family member who you can’t stand to spend more than five minutes with to simply exchange niceties and move on.
The friend who has deeply hurt you, or who you have deeply hurt.
The spouse who you once loved.
The sibling who doesn’t see things as you do.
The child who never listens or obeys.
The boss who is ruthless.
The church member who gossips.
The neighbor who is petty.
Spend some time with the Lord and ask Him to reveal those who you find unlovable. Repent for not loving others at Christ does. Ask for His love for them to overwhelm you and consume your heart.
