white knuckling.
Imagine you are being held by an impenetrable parachute-like material shaped like a cocoon-style hammock completely wrapped around you. Are you seeing yourself enveloped in this strong wrap?
This is the visual I get when I think of God holding me in the palm of his hands. He will never let go. It’s impossible for anyone to snatch me from His hands. It’s so strong. It’s a shell that can’t be penetrated. And it’s surrounding me.
If I’m in that barrier of a hammock wrapped around me and I’m hanging onto the fabric, I’m not going anywhere, even if I let go. It’s impossible for me to “fall out” of his hands …even if I let go.
This is such a great visual of being free in Christ’s love and protection. When he surrounds and encompasses me, I don’t have to hang on for dear life trying to control everything that is going on around me. I can release all my fear, all my control, and all my clinging to just let go and let Him hold and carry me. He says his yoke is easy and his burden is light.
So many times we cling to our burdens. We sink every ounce of our emotions into the circumstances we are walking through. We feel them to the fullest extent. We become weak, empty, and spent. Every bit of our energy has gone into fighting and clinging and grasping and white knuckling our way through the weight of our circumstances.
But we don’t have to.
Are they weighty? Yes! Are they painful? Yes! Are they seemingly impossible to our fragile hearts & minds? Yes! Do we have to exert all our energy on the circumstance itself? Absolutely not!
Please understand I’m not saying it is wrong to feel pain or that things we are walking through are not painful. No! Loss. Abuse. Shame. Sin. Sickness. Disease. Adultery. Anger. Abandonment. Loneliness. Guilt. Dishonesty. Faltering. Any of these contain so much weight to bear. And that weight is heavy. But it doesn’t have to be as heavy as we allow it to be.
Because God doesn’t let go – through it ALL. Through every pain and every hurt. He doesn’t let go.
If we would just allow his hands to encompass us and let go of whatever it is we are walking through, the burden would become so much lighter and easier to bear, because HE is holding it, and he is holding us!
This is eternal perspective, even here, in the middle of a storm, trial, struggle, or battle. Having the courage and understanding to let it go right into the hands of God is eternal perspective.
What are you walking through right now that is depleting you of all your energy? What is causing you to be spent? Sit with the Holy Spirit and ask Him to help you release it into his hands. Just be. Be in His presence. Allow Him to take the weight from your heart, mind, and spirit. Feel it lifting from you. He has it now. And He has YOU!
